Simona Castricum is a Melbourne musician using vocals, percussion and sequencing to create dark underground techno pop. Her beat driven and textural production express experiences of gender non-conformity, emotional abandonment and isolation. Simona’s 2016 album ’#TriggerWarning40’ is critically considered a breakthrough release - her first through Melbourne’s LISTEN Records.
Simona uses song and the stage as space for catharsis, for self- confrontation and for cardio- electronic percussion events;
a one-woman industrial rave delivered from smoke haze and laser beams. Her shows combine vocal, drumming and djing skills into one cohesive performance, enabling an adaptability in musical delivery that responds to various stages and audiences; from small venues, to large festivals and club settings.
Simona Castricum’s career in music has spanned 16 years writing and producing six albums as a solo artist formerly as Fluorescent and Simona Kapitolina. Her side projects include Ana Nicole and Transpixies. Simona was the creator of queer music label Girls Who Smoke Poke and club night The Shock Of The New.

- her first with Melbourne’s LISTEN Records - making feature album and performing live-to-air at both 3PBS FM and 3RRR FM in Melbourne.
Simona has performed live solidly since relaunching her career as a solo artist in 2013 in Melbourne. She has toured nationally through Sydney, Canberra, Hobart and featured in the micro-festival scene of Australia’s south-eastern states appearing at Camp Nong, Gaytimes, Transgenre and Rack Off! in Victoria and Grimoire in Tasmania. Simona has opened recently for major electronic dance/pop acts including NO ZU, Totally Mild and Paul Mac and in the 2000s with Ladytron, Cut Copy, Midnight Juggernauts and Pnau.
Simona’s mix of minimal techno/ house and new beat/industrial dance genres create a dark and physical dance floor experiences crafting sets through her own production as live remix sessions. Simona has produced all of her own releases, including collaborations with James Cecil of Super Melody and has remixed tracks for Pillow Pro and Geryon.
Her club night The Shock of the New ran for 5 years prioritising djing and dance floors for gender diverse and female expressions in techno. After her beginnings in the early 2000’s
in Melbourne underground clubs. Simona now features at Pleasure Planet, Cool Room, Hugs&Kisses and Good Manners club nights.
She has also performed nationally at Sydney’s Monsta Gras and House Of Mince parties and internationally at New York City’s queer dance club PAT.
